THE line-up for this year’s Girvan traditional folk festival includes some familiar faces and some exciting new acts.
The 39th staging of the popular event, which runs from Friday to Sunday, May 3-5, will see concerts, sessions, an open stage, competitions, workshops, children’s events and, of course, the campsite.
There will be an opening concert at the Westcliffe Hotel on the Friday with The Voice Squad, Triinu Guerrin and Kadri Karu, Martyn Wyndham-Read, The Spiers Family, Nick Caffrey and Ed McGurk, Scott Gardner, Siobhan Miller, Donal Maguire and Up in the Air.
Saturday will see competitions, children’s singing workshops, circus skills workshops and the tribute concert for festival founder Bobby Robb, at the Hamilton Arms at 2pm, involving Girvan Folk Club, Heather Heywood, Krag Folk and Martyn Wyndham-Read, who was at the second festival in 1976 and has kept in touch ever since.
There will also be an evening ceilidh at Sacred Heart church hall and an evening concert at the Westcliffe Hotel starting at 7pm.
Sunday will see competitions at the Westcliffe, storytelling and a family ceilidh at the Sacred Heart church hall from 1-3pm featuring Maggie Macrae, Siobhan Miller, Susie Kelly, Story Tellers and Suitcase Circus.
There will also be a folk group competition at the Westcliffe from 3pm.
The farewell concert is at the Sacred Heart church hall and there are also late sessions.
The ever-popular Tattiehowkers Ceilidh Band will also be performing at the festival, which promises to be one of the best ever, and that’s no mean feat.
