Girvan came alive to the sound of the pipes and drums on Sunday as the 36th Carrick Lowland Gathering took centre stage in Victory Park.

The Gathering is officially opened by the games chieftain who is selected by the Girvan Attractions committee.

This year’s chieftain was Robert Gibson, in recognition of his family’s fundraising for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

For the first time the crowning of the Civic Queen & King and their attendants took place at the Lowland Gathering.

The 2017 civic dignitaries are: Taylor Devine (Queen), Rory Wilson (King), Cameron Alcroft (Squire), Courtney McDonald (Lady in Waiting).

The event incorporates the Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway Pipe Band Association Competition, The Highland Heavy Weight Games, The Aileen Robertson School of Highland Dance Competitions, plus Girvan Athletics Club annual Saughill Hill race and an open Athletics’ Competition.

There are also funfair rides and a selection of catering facilities which all add up to an entertaining and fun filled day out for people of all ages to enjoy.

Girvan & District Attractions & Entertainment Association is a community led non-profit making organisation run by local volunteers for the benefit of the community, general public and tourist’s alike, providing community events free to all.
