Attractions committee holds AGM

AOn Thursday, May 10, Girvan and District Attractions and Entertainments Association held its AGM in the Westcliffe Hotel.

The chairman thanked all those both within the association and outside agencies who helped with all the events throughout the year. All office bearers were re-elected.

The AGM was followed by the ordinary monthly meeting. At this meeting all arrangements for the Lowland Gathering, to be held on Sunday, June 3, were discussed in fine detail.

It was discussed in what positions stalls such as the chainsaw artist and the archery should be sited. Other stalls attending, as well as the pipe bands and the Highland dancing, include owl magic and the climbing wall. A new feature this year is to be a children’s tug of war with a shield presented by Bay Ices. The meeting heard that the new caber was ready to be collected.

The meeting went on to discuss Civic Week. The royal party has been chosen and the various events have almost all been finalised for this year with new events joining the usual, gala parade with an Olympic theme this year, pet show, treasure hunt, pensioners’ party (tickets available at the CAN Shop). Z1 are organising their annual Gig on the Green as well as a walking treasure hunt.

It was agreed to hold a meeting on May 31 to finalise all arrangements for the Lowland Gathering. The next monthly meeting is to be held on Thursday, June 14, which is open and everyone is more than welcome to attend.
