Ballantrae scout group to hold auction

The Scout group in Ballantrae is preparing to host an auction next month in a bid to raise funds.

Chairman Andy McAlpine explained that the group has one large fundraising event every year.

It is set to hold an auction on Saturday, 9 May, in the community hall in Ballantrae’s Main Street at 2pm.

The ambitious event comes after the past two years saw a car boot sale and car wash being held.

Unfortunately, bad weather hit last year’s car wash so the group missed their fundraising target.

Andy said: “We are very lucky in Ballantrae to have such great outdoor facilities on our doorstep.

“But if we really are to give the young people the best programme that we can manage – outdoors and indoors – and maintain and replace our camping and activity equipment, the group has to continue raising funds each year.

“While each young person in the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts makes a contribution through their weekly subscriptions, we need to top this up annually.

“We are grateful to our friends Lynne and Brian McIlwraith, who have organised auctions in Colmonell, for offering to help us, and to Dr Tom Smith who has agreed to be the auctioneer.

“We are already gathering together some interesting items.

“It looks as though it will be an enjoyable afternoon with lots of bargains!”

Although the auction starts at 2pm, you will be able to view items in the community hall on the day from 1pm.

Admission to the auction is £1 with refreshments laid on.
