Big success for Christmas fayre at Girvan Academy

Suzanne Oliphant of Girvan Academy’s sixth year provides the latest news from the school.

Christmas Fayre

On Thursday December 3, the school’s annual Christmas fayre took place. The event was organised by the Parent Council and despite the weather it was well attended and busy throughout the night.

All proceeds from the night go to the school fund.

The event consisted of different stalls which included: hook the duck, higher or lower, guess the name of the reindeer, and Pin the nose on Olaf with many prizes on offer.

There was also the popular game Pie Face which helped to fund the Kenya trip in 2017. In the PE department there was Beat the Goalie, Christmas themed badminton and table tennis led by pupils who volunteered.

There were various stalls selling different kinds of goods such as bottle stalls (which helped fund Erasmus), a children’s tombola and a pet stall which sold toys, treats and even knitted jumpers for dogs. As well as these stalls there were outside retailers selling items such as sweets and different crafts. For the young kids there was face painting and Santa’s Grotto where they were greeted by Santa Claus and his helpers. Overall it was a huge success and an enjoyable night for all who came to support the school.

Thank you to everyone who turned up and a big thank you to those who organised and helped run the event.

Junior Christmas Dance

The annual Junior Christmas Dance took place on Wednesday December 9 for S1-S3. The dance was a big success and a sell-out. Prizes were given out to the best dancers for social dancing and fun was had by all pupils. A big thank you to all staff and pupils involved in organising and running the night.

Inter-house Volleyball

Throughout the week, all year groups took their turn in participating in inter-house volleyball. The competition gave the pupils the opportunity to win points for their house. The competition was well attended by pupils to support their house and watch some entertaining and close games. Well done to all who participated.

House Points

The leaderboard for house points is as follows: Penkill are currently in the lead with 108 points followed by Killochan with 99 points and in last place Glenapp with 68 points. It’s still all to play for.
