The Ayrshire Hospice is delighted to announce the winner of their calendar photographic competition 2016 is Carina Ferguson from Maybole.

Carina has won a £150 shopping voucher generously donated by Vennal Cameras in Ayr and her photograph will feature on the front cover of the 2017 Ayrshire Hospice calendar.

The photograph shows a majestic stag that Carina stumbled upon in Glen Rosa, Arran. Carina was called by Claire Stuart-Paulin, Senior Fundraiser, and received the exciting news.

Carina said: “I love taking photographs but I’m very much an amateur. It is a very special picture for me as it was my first ever solo hill walk – I usually have company.

“When I saw the stag and he looked up at me I rushed to get my camera out and managed to get two shots. It happened in seconds. The other photo is one is of him running away. It was a wonderful moment and winning this competition just makes it even more special.”

The hospice has produced a calendar for the last nine years and sells over 2,000 copies each year, raising over £9,000 for the hospice. Claire added “The theme was farm animals and wildlife at home in Ayrshire this year - we’ve never featured animals in the calendar before. The pictures we received were beautiful and the judges found it hard to pick just twelve.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part - Alister Firth for his professional expertise on the judging panel and a special thank you to Vennal Cameras for donating the generous prize.’’

The Ayrshire Hospice calendar will be available for purchase in September at any of the nine hospice shops or online. The hospice will announce next year’s theme soon, so everyone can get snapping!
