Carrick Gazette comment - Trump UK ban would be bad for Carrick

Although donald Trump’s statement regarding banning muslims from entering the USA is odious in the extreme, calls from the republican party nominee to be banned from entering the UK, which were debated in parliament this week, would be extremely bad for Carrick.

Mr Trump plans to spend millions at the Turnberry resort and calls from this area wishing to ban him from this country would not be helpful to this area’s economy.

Indeed the area’s MP has already spoken out against a ban as has the Labour candidate in the upcoming Scottish parliamentary elections and at least one local councillor - see our letters page this week.

The news that building work is set to start on Girvan swimming pool - at long last - is indeed very welcome in this part of the world.

It has been a long road since the council decided to demolish the old pool, but now thanks to the hard work of all involved at South Carrick Community Leisure, we will start to see work beginning and the pool taking shape over the coming months. This can only be good news for Girvan and Carrick and will kick-start the redevelopment of the harbour.
