Charity cheques at lodge BBQ

Lodge Girvan St Johns’ held their Annual barbeque at the lodge premises with over 50 brethren, family and invited guests enjoyed the event in glorious sunshine.

Following a special meeting in May when Brother Barry Crate of Lodge Wallace St Hugh No 1212, Crosshill, led a deputation of reigning Masters from Lodge St Thomas (Kil) No 433, Dalmellington, Lodge Fergusson St James No 566, Dailly, Lodge St John No 11, Maybole, and Lodge Stinchar Valley No 1705, Ballantrae, £700 was raised for the lodge charities this year.

Two cheques each for the sum of £350 were presented by the Right Worshipful Master of Lodge St Johns’ No 237, Brother Billy Agnew at the event on August 9 on behalf of the deputation of reigning masters.

The first cheque was presented to Mandy Sim, who was present to represent Girvan Nursery who provide two PEEP (Parents as Early Education Partners) sessions each week for babies and toddlers. The sessions are very well attended by local families and focus on developing early communication and language skills through sensory play, music, rhyme and songs.

In addition the Together Tuesday is for families within the nursery to come and participate in crafts and play sessions with their child during nursery sessions. Mandy stated in her thanks for the presentation that they were always in need of funds to help resource these initiatives and the nursery school was very grateful to Lodge Girvan St Johns’ for seeing fit to give them such a gift.

The second cheque was presented to Marjory Gibson, Vice Chairperson of the Friends of Hillcrest Committee which was formed originally to help run and the upkeep of a mini bus which was for the benefit of the residents of Hillcrest.

This committee continue to run various events throughout the year including Burns Suppers, St Andrews Nights and monthly Bingos. These events continue each year to allow residents the use of a mini-bus

The bus is run by volunteers and takes residents out on trips across Ayrshire and Galloway and on holidays all organised by the Friends of Hillcrest Committee under the leadership of Denis Reid and his team of helpers.

Also Present was the Provincial Grand Master of Ayrshire Brother Robert Little who presented Honorary Provincial Grand Rank of Director of Ceremonies for services to Freemasonry to Brother Duncan Campbell, Past Master of Lodge St Johns’ No 237, Girvan who has been Director of Ceremonies for over 30 Years in Girvan Lodge.

Also present was Brother Archie Chalmers, Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master of Ayrshire and Honorary Member of Lodge St Johns’ No 237 in Girvan.
