Charlotte McDowall, a P7 pupil at South Ayrshire Council’s Alloway primary school, created the winning design for the 2014 Road Safety Calendar on the theme of ‘Kids in the car’.
Children from a very young age learn by example, so it is very important all adults drive in a sensible way, setting a good example to children.
To help spread this important message Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) across South Ayrshire ran a poster competition within their own schools linking in with the recent Road Safety Scotland Campaign “Kids in the Car” as the theme. Each school selected their three best entries and forwarded these to officers in the Council’s Road Safety team. From these the winning entry was chosen by Councillor McDowall, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and Environment.
From all the high quality entries received, the overall winner was Charlotte who has the honour of having her design printed on the calendar to be distributed throughout South Ayrshire.
Charlotte said: “I wanted to show how responsible parents would never dream of letting their children travel without a seatbelt, or speed in built-up areas.” Pictured above are Charlotte with Councillor John McDowall and Councillor Allan Dorans.
