Fans of comics and graphic novels can now read some of their favourite titles free of charge. South Ayrshire Council libraries have launched a new online lending service which gives library members access to thousands of titles.

South Ayrshire Council libraries have more than 1,000 online users who have borrowed nearly 20,000 items through its eReading service for books and newspapers, including 8,000 through the Zinio magazine service, which is described as the world’s largest newsstand.

The addition of the Comics Plus service means that registered users will have access to 16,000 titles including: Cave Girl, Garfield, Orphan Black, Skylanders, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and X-Files. The library is expected to grow to 25,000 titles in the next few months, giving readers of all ages an even greater choice.

Jill Cronin, South Ayrshire Council’s Head of Enterprise, Development and Leisure said the new service was a welcome addition, “With more than a thousand people already using our online lending facilities there’s already strong demand for this convenient way of borrowing.

“The addition of comics to our popular ebook lending service allows us to broaden access to a range of material that can be accessed through home computer or from a mobile app.
