Gaiety grabs Glasgow theatre legend
A GLASGOW theatre institution will bring its lunchtime legacy to Ayr next week as A Play, A Pie and A Pint comes to the Gaiety.
Having presented up to 40 plays a year for the past eight years at Glasgow’s Oran Mor, the format is taking a four-day working holiday and coming to the seaside.
Next week, Thank You, written by Catrin Evans and starring Colin McCredie (pictured above), of Taggart and River City fame, will be the latest production to be performed in the Gaiety’s Studio Theatre – the venue’s multi-use performance space – since the Gaiety reopened after an almost four-year absence in December.
Directed by Joe Douglas, the play centres around an anxious couple who meet at a busy train station.
They haven’t seen each other for a long time – almost since they were teenagers – and the intense drama sees the world change for two people who thought they knew exactly what they were doing.
Gaiety executive director Vince Hope said the opportunity to bring the “winning” format to Ayr was unmissable.
“We are delighted to be able to collaborate with Oran Mor to bring A Play, A Pie and A Pint to Ayr,” he said.
Thank You will be staged on Wednesday, February 13 at noon, Thursday, February 14 at 7pm, Friday, February 15 at noon and Saturday, February 16 at 7pm.
