There will be four grades of awards in five categories covering the following – trees; vegetables; items of special scientific or educational interest; pictures and floral arrangements; and gardens. There will also be some special awards. The highlight of the week will no doubt be the opportunity of seeing round the seventeen large show gardens. Throughout the week the programmes will contain both live and pre-recorded items. The programmes will have many guests including - Nicki Chapman, Monty Don, Rachel de Thame, Anne-Marie Powell, Carol Klein, Toby Buckland, Danny Clarke, Adam Frost, Mark Lane and Zephania Lindo. They will be discussing what is on show this year and giving viewers at home some hints on how they can make their own gardens like the ones featured on the programmes. On Monday there will be three programmes – one from a quarter to four on BBC1; another on the same channel at half past seven; and then a third one following it at eight o’clock on BBC2.
Monday evening is the time when the Queen is due to make her annual visit to the Flower Show.
On Tuesday there will just be the two programmes – the one at a quarter to four on BBC1 and one at eight o’clock on BBC2.
