This Saturday evening from a quarter past six, BBC-1 has scheduled two entertainment shows - both of them featuring members of the public competing against each other.
One is the return of the Voice UK – the other is a completely new show called Reflex.
Viewers who are missing this year’s X Factor which concentrated on performers with a ‘good voice’, should enjoy The Voice UK. Just as the X Factor chose to change its panel and its presenters over time, the Voice UK has done the same.
Emma Willis - who is currently hosting Celebrity Big Brother takes on the presenting duties this season alongside Marvin Humes. The two new coaches are Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson (of the Kaiser Chiefs).
The returning coaches are Sir Tom Jones and Will.i.am. No doubt for many people the most interesting aspect of the show will be finding out who gets through the red chair auditions.
Before that, there is this new game show hosted by Shane Ritchie who is now probably most famous for his role as Alfie Moon on Eastenders. Shane is on familiar territory here though because before Alfie, he was probably best known for his work as a game show host on ITV.
This new show involves two family teams composed of three members each competing in five rounds of spectacular and unusual games. Much is being made of the speed in which they have to complete these tasks (with the use of slow motion photography being a prominent feature of the programme). There will also be a commentary provided by Radio 2’s Ken Bruce. At stake is a possible £20,000 cash prize for the winning family. Whether these two programmes becoming a ratings success for the BBC however remains to be seen.
