People across South Ayrshire are being encouraged to make the most of an international concert series taking place this year. The ‘Organist Entertains’ concerts at Ayr Town Hall are being organised by Fort, Seafield and Wallacetown Community Council, with support from South Ayrshire Council.

The concerts take place every Monday until 28 November. Running between 12 and 1 they feature a wide-variety of top organists including musicians from Germany and Italy, with special events including a live accompaniment to the Buster Keaton silent classic ‘The General’.

The first concerts of the year are now taking place in Ayr Town Hall. Installed in 1904, the 27-stop Lewis organ has a wide musical range and the ability to mimic an array of different instruments to deliver a vast orchestral sound. The fixture was awarded Grade 1 Historic Organ Certificate by the British Institute of Organ Studies in 2013.

Matthew Hynes, Royal Burgh of Ayr Organist, said, “Very few places outside London are able to attract and host regular organ concerts.

“These events will feature renowned musicians as well as some new faces; anyone who comes along is in for a real musical treat.”

The admission price of £3 will be payable on at the door.
