Maybole postman is charity champion

Maybole postman Alex Gemmell chose the West Highland Way as the route for his sponsored walk this year and chose local charity South Ayrshire Dementia Support Association as the beneficiaries of the money raised.

He was accompanied by Stephen Sinclair and raised the sum of £1,500.10 and they recently handed a cheque over to Wilma Smith, senior support worker, who thanked them for the donation.

Wilma said the money would go towards a summer house in the back garden of their premises at Eglinton Terrace in Ayr where clients can make good use of it.

The 154Km (96 mile) route of the West Highland Way starts at Milngavie passes through Mugdock Country Park, follows the shores of Loch Lomond, passing Ben Lomond, through Glen Falloch and Strathfillan, crossing Rannoch Moor, past Buachaille Etive Mor to the head of Glencoe, climbing the Devil’s Staircase, descending to sea level to cross the River Leven at the head of Loch Leven before entering Lairigmor and Glen Nevis and finishes up at Gordon Square in Fort William.
