Santa steams into the leadhills

Leadhills & Wanlockhead Railway, a Charitable trust, is run exclusively by volunteers, and operating trains for the public at weekends from Easter through to the end of September.

It combines events, where possible, with Hidden Treasures, the Mining Museum at Wanlockhead, which is also a charity.

This gives it the opportunity to provide a full day out for visitors, who can also take advantage of their time to visit the various heritage attractions of Leadhills.

On 1st and 2nd December, the trust are running Santa Special trains, incorporating a trip to the Mining Museum, and a visit to Santa in the mine, and including a present from santa for all children, and mulled wine and mince pies for all.

At the same time, the Leadhills Xmas Craft and Gift Fair is taking place in the Hopetoun Arms Hotel in Leadhills, with a wide range of stalls, offering handicraft and gift ideas for all at Christmas.

Santa Special tickets can be obtained from Robin, on 01899 850667, or online at www.leadhillsrailway.com/santa.htm. Prices are £7.50 per child, £5.00 for adults, or 20 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children). One free adult ticket per child on 10.00, 10.30 and 11.00 trains each day.
