Girvan Folk Clubs welcomes back singer songwriter Martyn Wyndham Read to the club on Friday 21st November.

English by birth, Martyn developed a great interest in the folksongs of the Australian outback when he went to work on a sheep station in the early 1960’s and fell in love with Australia and it’s music.

During his seven years in Australia he sought out and learned old songs directly from drovers, cane cutters and other bush workers.

After singing these songs to audiences all across the Australian continent he returned to England where he continued to bring the songs to an appreciative British audience.

To date his recording career spans 30 years and more than 30 albums, many considered classics of their genre. One of the most engaging performers you’re ever likely to see, his exceptionally intimate performance combines songs, humorous bush poetry recitations, stories and anecdotes of outback life and comments on Australian history and culture that typically leave the audience ready to book the next flight out to Sydney!

The concert starts at 8.30pm in the back room of the Queens Hotel with tickets priced £6 available on the door or you can book by contacting Beverley or Margaret on 01465 714934. For further info go to girvanfolkclub.shutterfly.com.
