The return of Ant and Dec to the box

With Splash – the celebrity diving show – screening its final show last week, there is a vacant slot in the ITV schedules to be filled.

Unfortunately for ITV, the ratings for Splash have been down this year compared to last year, with its BBC rival The Voice doing a great deal better.

It remains to be seen whether Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway on Saturday at seven manages to take away some of The Voice’s ratings or not.

As ever this show – which encourages people to not just watch the ads but to win them – is a mixture of comedy, light entertainment and quiz show. Ant and Dec – currently television’s favourite presenters - return to what they do best and that is hosting a live entertainment programme.

In some way it has the kind of mix that worked well when Noel hosted his Saturday House Party and this season once again the dynamic duo will be attempting a number of undercover operations in order to convince some famous celebrities to do some amusing things.

Ant and Dec will themselves face a number of challenges to see who is better. There is also the return of Little Ant and Dec who will be interviewing some very famous people in their own unique way.

Each show will also feature the popular quiz where one audience member could win all of the items advertised during a particular programme or else go home with a few prizes or even none at all.

Each programme ends in a spectacular fashion with an added surprise.

This series will last for the next seven weeks and has as its first guest announcer Michael Buble. After this eleventh series there will be a version of the show touring later in the year.
