This week’s Carrick Chatter

On Monday 14th March Pinwherry SWI president Jean Wyllie welcomed members to the AGM. Minutes of the last AGM were read and approved.

Treasurers, Secretary and Presidents report were given. New office bearers are as follows President- Marie McNulty, Vice President- Liz Gregg, Secretary -Lana Rafferty, Minute Secretary- Grace Dunlop, Handiwives representative to Federation – still to be appointed. Committee, Jean Wyllie, Elizabeth Ferguson, Margaret Logan, Irene McCrae, Rona Tait and Beth Blain.

The President then introduced Annette Torbet and her friend Irene who opened her “Sweet Shop” to all, telling us about her sweet recipes for making homemade sweets. Members were then allowed to select a goody bag of sweets to take home. Vote of thanks was given by Liz Gregg. Competition 1 – Fruit drink 1st Sue Royce, 2nd Jean Wyllie. Competition 2 House Plant 1st Sue Royce 2nd Jean Wyllie. The President then closed the meeting.

The next meeting on Monday 11th April will be an Open Night, musical entertainment will be provided by The Revellers. The meeting is open to anyone in Pinwherry, Pinmore and the surrounding area.

Girvan

Spring tea

The Guild of Girvan South Parish Church are holding their Spring Tea on Wednesday 6th April from 2pm to 4pm in the church halls. Tickets are available now costing only £2.50. They can also be purchased on the door. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of chat with friends and nice have things to eat. All welcome.

Car boot sale

Girvan South Parish Church are holding a Craft Fair and Car Boot Sale on Saturday 2nd April from 10 am to 2 pm in both halls. Entry is free. Snacks available. Come along and stock up on presents or get a “must have” from the car boot section. Treat yourself – you know you want to!! If you want a table you can hire one for only £10, just phone Anne on 01465 713427 but hurry – only a few left. See you there!

Bowling Club

A Beetle Drive will be held in club on Tuesday 5th April at 7 30 pm everyone welcome entry £1. Also recent Prize Bingo made £370.00 and tea and coffee made £16.00 and went to charity.

Easter Bingo

No, it’s not an April Fool – Girvan Scout Group is holding a Special Easter Prize Bingo on Friday 1st April, at 7.30pm, in their hall at 9 Glendoune Street (near Ainlsie Books). Entry is free with game books going for 50p each. Refreshments and a raffle will be available too. The Scouts need to raise funds throughout the year to keep the hall open so why not drop in and support them. The hall is also available for hire.

Community Centre

The User Group committee would encourage all users to come the meeting on Wednesday, 30th March at 7pm in the main hall. Among other business at our AGM on we will be discussing the future of our centre, considering the new charges for utilities to be handed over to us by the South Ayrshire Council. All rural community centres will be under threat. Please show your interest in keeping the Community Centre open.

Flower Club

“A Touch of Eurasian” was the title Demonstrator Elizabeth Bishop who was On Tour from Sheffield chose for her Demonstration to the club on Wednesday 23rd March for Girvan & District Flower Club in Girvan Community Centre.

Elizabeth’s many attributes include NAFAS Area Demonstrator, Freelance Florist, Speaker, Raconteur all of which were evident during the course of her Demonstration, the audience were treated to some colourful arrangements with her use of Strelitzia, Gerbera, Orchids, Anthuriums to name but a few, all evidence of her passion and love of exotic flowers. Elizabeth gave a great insight of her own background which led to this love, and led her to setting up her own jungleblooms website.

This was Elizabeth’s first visit to Scotland, which she had thoroughly enjoyed and hoped to return.

The next Demonstration features Margo Black from Airdrie with her “Zest for Life” Demonstration, this takes place on Wednesday 27th April at 7.15pm in Girvan Community Centre.

Minishant

SWI

Minishant SWI enjoyed an evening of reminiscence at their meeting on Thursday, March 17. They had the opportunity of going back to the origins of what was Minishant and District SWRI 92 years ago. This proved to be an interesting and entertaining evening for everyone with some surprises!

Members would like to thank Anne Walker for putting all of this together at short notice following the speaker’s unavailability. Apologies also to their guests for any inconvenience caused by the alteration.

BRICC Club

The BRICC Club will hold their annual Coffee Morning in aid of BRICC Club funds in BRICC House Ballantrae on Saturday 2 April 2016 from 10am to 11.30am. Stalls will include baking, plants and produce, cake, fancy goods, games, raffle and teas. Admission Adult £2 Child £1. Donations would be very gratefully received. All welcome.
