Thought for the week with Rev. Ian McLachlan - It’s not always so easy

What is the most difficult thing that you have ever done? I dare say that I would get a whole range of different answers.

After all, what might be difficult for some people would not necessarily be difficult for other people. And would it make a difference if I asked – What is the most difficult thing that you have successfully done? Some people might say that there are been quite a few difficult things that they have attempted in their lives, but they have not always successfully completed them. While for example, some people find passing their driving test relatively straightforward there are others who find it one of the most difficult things of all to successfully accomplish.

As a result, after a few attempts, there are some people who refuse to sit the test again, while there are others who will go on sitting their test until they are successful. Sometimes if something is easy for us to complete, we cannot always understand why other people do not find it so easy. We also do not always appreciate how fortunate we are to accomplish this task relatively easily and are not always as grateful to God as we should be for the skills and talents that He has given us. Sometimes we appreciate things more, if we have had to struggle hard to achieve them.

If they have cost us in time, money, or energy. There are some people who will say that one of the most difficult things to do is living the Christian life. That involves always giving God his proper place and caring about the world, her people and their problems. It may be one of the most difficult things to do. But it is also the most rewarding.
