Scotland’s best loved variety show is “Whirling” back this summer to the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr.

The All New Gaiety Whirl – a two week extravaganza of laughter, magic, dancing and singing – will revive memories of the classic shows that played to packed audiences for generations.

The All New Whirl’s summer run sees a triumphant return to the Gaiety for producer and performer Michael Courtney, whose production in December 2012 of the theatre’s opening pantomime ‘Cinderella’ played to sell-out crowds and his performance as ‘Buttons’ received rave reviews.

Michael’s singing, acting and producing talents will again be on show as he heads the cast in a series of evening and matinee performances from June 24 to July 7.

Joining Michael will be internationally renowned magic act ‘Safire’, acclaimed West End soprano Elizabeth Atkinson and a full supporting cast of singers, dancers and musicians.

The Gaiety’s Artistic Director Vince Hope is delighted that the seaside venue will again play host to an entertainment tradition that began in the 1930s and shows every sign of proving just as popular in 2013.

Vince said: “In its heyday the Whirl attracted audiences from all over Scotland, and the All New Gaiety Whirl will once again be the talk of the town with its glamour, glitz and magic, song, dance and comedy.

“It’s a brand spanking new variety show full of top class entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

“The long-term success of the theatre depends a good deal on the support we receive from our audiences, and we hope that this summer will see sell-out crowds for as many of the shows as possible.”

Michael Courtney has produced and directed more than 40 large scale touring shows and pantos and has built a fine reputation as an actor and singer.

Michael said: “The reception we received in Ayr with Cinderella was exceptional and I am looking forward to bringing the All New Whirl back to the Gaiety stage.”

Award winning masters of magic, Stuart and Jayne Loughland have appeared worldwide as ‘Safire’, and Ayrshire theatre goers can look forward to the stunning illusions that have enthralled audiences from Las Vegas to London’s West End.

Highlights of their career include an invitation from world famous illusionists Siegfried and Roy to appear in their World Magic Show in the US, an appearance in a Royal Variety Performance at The Prince of Wales Theatre in London and various TV appearances.
