5,000 ebooks read in one year

Over 5,000 ebooks have been read by South Ayrshire Council library users since the Council launched its innovative e-book service a year ago.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said: “As the first local authority in Scotland to launch a free downloadable library ebooks service our Council has led the way. The ebook service has been embraced by library users and it has been a resounding success.

“We have given our customers even more choice and ebooks are certainly making many people read in a different way. Ebooks are so convenient when travelling to and from work on the bus or train, you can listen to them when gardening, running in the gym or at home. They are particularly useful when going on holiday, no more carrying heavy books when you travel, just download books of your choice.

“For people who are in hospital or find holding a book for long periods of time difficult ebooks are a real blessing.

“Our library service is alive and well, thanks to the wide range of services that we offer and I am sure that the service will continue to thrive.”
