THE weather may not have been the greatest - and the local fire brigade may have been called away - but that didn't stop the fun at Maybole Gala on Saturday afternoon.

The annual parade started at Carrick Academy with Maybole Pipe Band leading off followed by the town's royal couple, local dignitaries, and a number of walking groups.
These groups were St Cuthbert's Primary as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Maybole Brownies as The Wizard of Oz; Gardenrose Primary as High School Musical; Maybole Youth Club as Sweeney Todd; Cairn Primary Samba Band and The Lion King; Maybole Majorette and Dance School; and Thorpe Karate School.
An added attraction was an old Maybole Burgh bucket lorry which has been renovated by Michael Cooper. Also in the parade was a horse and rider.
At Glebe Park, Gregor Connolly was crowned King of Carrick by Cathy Jamieson MSP and Robin Stevenson was crowned Queen by Adam Ingram MSP. The gala was officially opened by South Ayrshire Council's Provost Winifred Sloan.
The new king and queen are both P7 pupils at Gardenrose Primary. Their attendants are Ross Malone (Crown Bearer) and Phoebe McDowall (Lady in Waiting), from St Cuthbert's Primary, and Kenneth Tweedie (Crown Bearer) and Shannon Andrew (Lady in Waiting) from Cairn Primary.
The fancy dress competition was judged by Provost Sloan, Sandra Osborne MP, Cathy Jamieson MSP, Adam Ingram MSP and local councillors, Brian Connolly, Ann Galbraith, Sandra Goldie and Mairi Low.
Cairn Primary School won the best walking group, with Maybole Youth Club second. Competition winners:
Fancy Dress. Under 5: 1 Keiva Campbell (Brig o'Doon); 2 Alex McCreadie (Fairy); 3 Eilish Connell (Fairy Butterfly). Highly commended Dillon Conkie, Katie Brown.

Children were well catered for by several performances by Uncle Billy and entertainment was provided in the main arena by Maybole Pipe Band, The Aileen Robertson Highland Dancers, Maybole Majorette and Dance School, Frances Dryburgh, and country and western group Legacy.
There was also a disco and karaoke, 50s rockabilly music from The Peas, and electro hip-hop rock from Switchblade Masquerade. With stalls manned by local groups, a tea tent, pony rides and a fairground there really was something for everyone.
Peter Mason, interim chair of Maybole Community Association, who organise the annual event, thanked everyone who took part saying: "A lot of hard work went into the parade and we would like to express our appreciation to everyone."
Special thanks were expressed to Patrick Hunter Blair who provided the official royal car and chauffeured the King and Queen. Also thanked specially were the police, fire and rescue officers, and ScottishPower Renewables who sponsored the gala.
