GIRVAN Boating Pond will be officially re-opened by South Ayrshire Council this Saturday.
The pond will be open every weekend from noon to 5 pm throughout the summer for local people and visitors to enjoy.
Girvan Boating Pond was designed in 1938 by James Wright in collaboration with the Council.
It was built on 'The Green' just south of the harbour and was very distinctive with its small island in the centre, incorporating a glider dome and a fleet of motorboats for hire.
To celebrate the re-opening at 12 noon on Saturday 27 June 2009 there will be a celebration that will include an Elvis Tribute Artist, Highland Dancers from the Aileen Robertson School of Dancing, a traditional Scottish Piper and an appearance from the newly crowned Girvan Gala Queen, King, Lady in Waiting and Squire.
The boating pond will be open every Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer and from 13 to 19 July 2009, the week of The Open Championship, from 12 noon to 5 pm each day.
