Pensioner victim of vicious vehicle vandal

A DISABLED pensioner has been victimised by a vandal after successfully campaigning for a parking bay outside his home in Girvan.
And 63-year-old Gordon Pearson, of Harbour Street, has reported eight attacks on his camper van in just 15 months.
Now the widower, who suffers from mobility problems, has put his house on the market and plans to find a home nearby for himself and his pet dog.
"It's not as if anyone who buys my house will have a problem," he said. "I'm the one who's the target."
The last attack took place on Thursday night.
Mr Pearson had left the vehicle shortly before teatime and when he returned to it at 9pm there was a large, vertical, "heavy duty" score on the side.
He told the Carrick Gazette this week: "The previous attack had been about four months before that, so I was beginning to hope whoever was doing it had either moved away or even died."
According to Mr Pearson, none of his neighbours has had their cars vandalised.
He has no idea why the attacker should have victimised him.
"It started off with a light, gentle scoring along the driver's side but has got steadily worse," he said.
"I've reported it to the police every time but was told there's little they can do about it.
"Apparently it would cost too much to use a CCTV camera and, anyway, there's no knowing when whoever has been doing this will strike.
"I have lived here for 20 years and have never fallen out with anyone. It's victimisation for a reason I don't know.
"This only started after the Carrick Gazette reported how I was campaigning for a disabled parking space, which I eventually got.
"But although the camper van is parked under a security light and right outside my home, I have never been able to catch anybody at it."
One possible solution would be a 'neighbourhood watch' scheme but, as none exists in the area, Mr Pearson is urging anybody who might have seen someone acting suspiciously near his vehicle to contact the police at Girvan.
Carrick police chief Inspector Andy Clapperton said on Tuesday: "There is a problem that will have to be monitored very closely and we are looking at exactly what we can do about it.
"There have been six attacks on Mr Pearson's vehicle within the last year alone. He is very definitely a target. This is not just indiscriminate."
The inspector added: "I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the Community Officer at Girvan, PC Donald Neil."
