SUPER Simon Logan climbed to the top of Ailsa Craig exactly a year after being released from hospital suffering a horrific spinal injury.
Simon, 23, can only walk with the support of crutches after a freak incident on a diving holiday in Gran Canaria last year.
The active Girvan man now plays wheelchair basketball for the West of Scotland, but decided to take on the challenge of the
'Craig' to raise money for his team.
Simon said: "I see the Ailsa everyday from the town and when you look at it from here it doesn't look that bad. It was only when got about a mile away in the boat did I realise just how high it was and I thought "this is big".
Along with the support from mates Kevin Borland and Kieran Farrell, Simon battled his way to the summit in just three hours.
He continued: "It was hard going and my quads were sore, but it was certainly worth it. I need to say a big thanks to Kevin and Kieran for helping reach the top, their support was brilliant."
The money raised by Simon will go toward his basketball team, who are a charitable organisation, and contribute to a new wheelchair for him, which costs £3,000.
The West of Scotland team are one of only two in Scotland, so the team has to play leagues from teams in the north of England. Money raised is normally put toward travelling, equipment and overnight costs.
He added: "There is a possibility of entry into the Great Britain team in the future, but I'm enjoying what I'm doing just now.
"My basketball coach has also even suggested tennis as well, but I like the basketball."
