SPOTTED a bearded biker zooming down the A77 recently?
That may not be a Hell's Angel going on holiday - but the new minister of Girvan Methodist Church on his way to work.
Reverend Dave Hall splits his time between the two churches he serves in Greenock, where he stays with his family, and the other in Girvan.
He's always loved motorcycles and finds it a wonderful way to commute – so when he took up the new post last September he looked forward to making his way down to Girvan on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and usually alternate Sundays.
Until recently, Rev Dave was driving an old 125cc bike that wasn't quite up to the demands of the A77. But he acquired an old Russian motorcycle, a 650cc flat-twin Soviet Knight – with a dodgy clutch, unfortunately.
He said: "I'm in the midst of getting it repaired so I can get it back on the road. All prayers welcome!"
Music is an important part of Dave Hall's ministry.
The rock 'n' roll reverend said: "I became a Christian when I was 16 and had started playing guitar at the time.
"Within about a year I found myself writing songs in my own kind of style. It's just gone on from there. I use my songs to get a particular message across, maybe something God is laying on my heart to preach about." Dave was brought up in Jarrow, near Newcastle, and started as a Methodist lay preacher at the tender age of 18.
He became a joiner by trade and met his wife Eleanor, who comes from Uddingston, near Glasgow.
But it was only after the couple already had four children that he felt called by the Lord to join the ministry full-time, which came as a bit of a shock to his wife.
Dave said: "Eleanor told me, 'Why couldn't God have done this when we had no kids?" But she is thrilled that, after years serving at a church in Manchester, her husband's new job has brought the family back to Scotland near her parents.
His style may be a bit unorthodox, but Dave Hall's faith is solidly traditional.
He said: "Theologically, I believe in the joy of the Lord, the Kingdom of God - no matter what denomination you belong to - and the power of Jesus to change lives."
Rev Hall thinks it's important to engage with today's generation and finds music a powerful way to do it.
So in addition to the morning services in Girvan that tend to be fairly traditional, he's started evening "free praise" services that will feature new music and be much more informal.
Everyone is welcome - even if they haven't been to church for years. Since arriving, he's spent a lot of time getting to know people in local churches and meeting with the fellowship of local ministers who get together at the Community Centre once a month.
He was delighted to be invited on to the Chaplaincy Team at Girvan Primary School, along with colleagues Douglas McNab and Ian McLachlan.
Dave said: "It's been good to go in and share with the children, and music is obviously a great thing to use because kids are so into music."
Over the next few weeks, Rev Hall is planning a series of prayer walks on Sunday afternoons. He said: "I'm hoping to walk and pray around the community, asking for God's blessing on the town." And he's invited anyone interested in joining him to give him a ring.
Sunday morning services at the Methodist Church will continue as normal, at 11:00am, with the new fortnightly free praise services taking place at 6:00 on Sunday evenings - the next one is scheduled for the 10th of February.
There is "Quiet Time" at 12:00 on Tuesdays and a Shopper's Service on Wednesdays at 12:30. Details will be posted on the noticeboard outside the church in Dalrymple Street.
