All’s fare for Diamond Carrick couple

CARRICK pair William and Helen McClure recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, but the route to true love could have taken an entirely different turn for the happy two.

Originally from Girvan, Helen met Crosshill man William on the bus – on her way to meet someone else – but the two singles hit it off and she ended up not keeping her original appointment!

Love was clearly just the ticket and as romance blossomed, the duo took their relationship to the upper deck by getting married on October 4 1952, at St Andrew’s Church in Girvan.

Now settled in Crosshill with a daughter and two sons, the happy couple celebrated their special day with a visit from Depute Provost Mary Kilpatrick, who presented the ‘fare pair’ with a basket of flowers and a commemorative card.
