Ayrshire Hospice is asking retailers in Carrick to help them out by donating the new five pence carrier bag charge to the charity.

From October 20 across Scotland, single use carrier bags can no longer be given away free of charge by retailers to customers.

Instead, a minimum of 5p per carrier bag must be made to consumers.

If you are a retailer, the Ayrshire Hospice is asking you to consider donating the money charged for your carrier bags to the charity.

Fiona Leitch, Head of Fundraising at the hospice said: “Even the smallest amounts can make the largest difference to the care that we provide to our patients and families throughout Ayrshire and Arran. We would greatly appreciate if local retailers would consider supporting us in this way.”

Any retailer that agrees to donate their five pences to the hospice will be provided with posters to publicise their support and will receive an annual acknowledgement certificate to display the total raised, near their checkouts in their stores.

Purple hospice collection cans are also available on request.

In addition, if you are a retailer and have any “old season” or surplus carrier bags lying in store rooms that you cannot use, the Ayrshire Hospice retail team would be delighted to pick these up to use in the hospice shops across Ayrshire.
