An afternoon event, held to promote and celebrate the successes of the Ayrshire LEADER programme – a pan-Ayrshire rural funding initiative – has been hailed a success as over one hundred community representatives attended.
Held at Lochside Hotel in New Cumnock, the Ayrshire LEADER event showcased many of the inspirational projects that have been funded through its Local Action Group (LAG) – the management body responsible for the delivery of the project.
Delegates at the event learned that since its launch in 2008, the Ayrshire LEADER Local Action Group has committed in excess of £4.2m to 112 projects across rural Ayrshire and those who came along were brought up to date with superb funded initiatives:
In addition to the presentations, there were over twenty promotional stands ranging from the Ayrshire Food Network to Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex.
Delegates were also given an exclusive preview of an exciting and innovative pan-Ayrshire project called Planning for Action in Rural Ayrshire.
Chris Savage, Chair of the LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) added: “The LEADER event was an excellent way to demonstrate just how effective funding has been in rural communities – making a real difference in hard to reach or isolated areas.
“This event is just one way we bring these key groups together and showcase the variety of successful projects being delivered in our rural communities.”
He concluded: “LEADER aims to support community based projects that will assist in revitalising rural communities and building rural community capacity.
“It was very encouraging to see so many people attend and I’m especially grateful to those volunteers who came along to host stands, or to make presentations on the day.
