Ayrshire warms to energy campaign

Over 1,500 households in South Ayrshire will be warmer and more energy efficient from this year, thanks to a home energy campaign run in partnership between the Energy Agency and South Ayrshire Council.

Funded by the Scottish Government, the Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS) offered local residents a range of energy efficiency advice and, where appropriate, provided home insulation measures free of charge.

Speaking at a presentation on the success of the scheme, Councillor Douglas Campbell, Portfolio Holder for Housing said: “Households in South Ayrshire were able to take advantage of free cavity wall insulation, loft insulation top-ups, or complete new loft insulation, as well as obtain information and advice on how to reduce their energy use and minimise utility bills.

“This work will save around 18,500 tonnes of CO2 over the lifetime of the measures and it will save around £3.6 million in fuel bills for people in the area, while making sure many vulnerable residents will be able to enjoy a warm, comfortable and energy efficient home.”
