Despite the inclement weather which hit the area on at the weekend, Barr Village managed to pull of another excellent Gala Day

This year’s King and Queen are Barr Primary’s Nathan Harvey and Ellie Faulds with Elysha White as their Lady in Waiting. With the Dunaskin Doon Band leading the way, they paraded with the floats through the village to their “coronation” in the village hall to declare the Gala Day open..

This year’s theme was “Children’s TV Shows” and it was a a lively and colourful affair with many of our favourite cartoon characters making an appearance.

The day got off to an early start with the traditional Fell Race for adults and children over Auchensoul. Then it was onto the Gala Parade through the village followed by the crowning of the Gala King and Queen.

The weather stayed dry until after the ceremony when the first of the afternoon’s rain drove the crowd into the covered stalls and the tea room. The Dunaskin Band sought refuge in the village hall from where played a full repertoire throughout the afternoon. It dried up once more for the Dog Show and the Scooby Do trail which was big hit with the children as was the variety of games held on the putting green.

At the end of the day, no one really seemed to mind the weather, thought here’s no doubt that it kept a number of visitors away. It was a pity, because they missed one of the best Gala Days for a number of years.
