Girvan’s Z1 Dance Group is delighted to announce that is has recently been successful in receiving funding from Carrick Futures.

This will allow the group to continue in its present form until June 2017.

At present 25 young people from Girvan and the surrounding villages take part in the dance group and the Carrick Futures investment means that their weekly dance class will continue to be free.

As well as weekly dance classes the group also get many opportunities throughout the year to perform locally and nationally at no cost to the young person; these opportunities are very rewarding for the young people - building their confidence, bonding them as a group and it broadens their horizons.

One youngster from the dance group said: “I get to meet new people, we go places - I perform in shows and learn lots of dance styles.”

Another said if she didn’t have the dance group to attend she would be sitting at home doing nothing.

This Sunday the dance group are travelling to the SECC in Glasgow to perform in Dance Show Live where they will be performing along side famous dance acts such as ‘Twist and Pulse’ ‘Boyband Dance Crew’ and ‘Flawless’.

Z1 Dance most recent performances include a Flash Mob at Music on the Prom in Girvan where they surprised the audience with a Hand Jive from the movie Grease and at Go Dance in the Theatre Royal Glasgow where they delivered an amazing contemporary performance about dreams and nightmares.

On Sunday at the SECC they will be performing yet another dance style, the group have been working hard with their talented dance instructor Heather to create an upbeat Hip Hop Dance that will be sure to impress the audience at Dance Show Live on Sunday.

If you have a child that has just started 1st year at Girvan Academy, and is interested in joining Z1 Dance, the dance group co-ordinator Yvonne will be visiting Girvan Academy later in September to give the new year group the opportunity to join.
