VISITORS to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway will get more culture than they bargained for next week as the museum celebrates the first ever Book Week Scotland.
The award winning museum in Alloway will be giving away 1000 copies of My Favourite Place, a collection of tributes to Scotland’s best-loved places including stories from Michael Palin, Sally Magnusson, Alexander McCall Smith and Liz Lochhead.
People the length and breadth of the country are being encouraged to take part in the first ever week-long national celebration of reading.
The seven-day book bonanza hopes to inspire the nation to embrace reading’s capacity for empowerment, enrichment, education, solace, pleasure and growth, and to provide a platform for the celebration of Scottish literary talent.
Stuart Cochrane, the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum’s admissions manager, said: “This year’s book is a fantastic collection of writing about Scotland by the people of Scotland and is a book to be enjoyed and shared.”
Book Week Scotland will take place from Monday November 26 to Sunday December 2. To find out more visit www.scottishbooktrust.com/book-week-scotland-2012.
