Cancer support with your weekly shop

A TEAM of information and support advisors from Macmillan Cancer Support will be in Asda, Girvan, every month from September to give people across South Ayrshire the chance to drop in for advice, support or information.

They will be available instore on the first and third Wednesday of every month, from 11am till 3pm.

Staff say anyone is welcome to stop by for an informal chat – whether they have just been diagnosed with cancer, are living with cancer themselves, supporting someone who is, or just want to get a better idea of spotting the symptoms.

The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service hope to ensure that anyone going through it or has been affected by cancer in any way are getting the backing that they need.

Sandra White, a nurse consultant in cancer at University Hospital Crosshouse said, “We know people lead very busy lives and it’s not always easy to know where to go for support when you are affected by cancer, so we thought being somewhere that most people visit on a bi-weekly basis will help us reach anyone who needs us.

“If we can’t answer questions on the spot we will put people in touch with those that can and hopefully help more people get the support they deserve when they need it most.”
