THERE are hopes that Maybole’s new Carrick Centre will be open in time to host a Christmas service.
The centre, which was built with £2 million in funding from the Church of Scotland, as well as other organisations, is nearing completion near the town’s railway station, and it is hoped it could be open by 2012.
The “multi-purpose community facility” will house an auditorium, which will also be used for church services and a cafe, which it is hoped will generate income and provide training places for people with educational disabilities, a games room and a soft-play area among other attractions.
Alan Murray of the Carrick Centre, Maybole, said: “We think it could be handed over by December 19 and the Church of Scotland are looking to have a Christmas service.
“We also want to make sure there are ways everyone can become involved in this exciting project.”
