Carrick MSP welcomes community transport funding

Local SNP MSP and Deputy Convener of the Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee (ICI) Adam Ingram welcomed the announcement of £1million for community transport from Minister for Transport Keith Brown this week.

The one-off fund for this financial year will help community transport operators buy new vehicles to expand their services or replace older vehicles which was a key recommendation from the ICI Committee report on Community Transport.

Commenting on the announcement Mr Ingram said:

“The Minister responded well to the Committees report into community transport which was debated in Parliament last week and I am delighted that the SNP Government has awarded much needed funding which will go some way in assisting operators.

“This commitment will be well received by operators such as Coalfield Community Transport in Cumnock who run a vital service for the local community and vulnerable disadvantaged groups.

“This is a one-off fund for now, but it is expected to provide valuable insights into the sector’s needs which can be used to develop future support as finances permit.

“The Scottish Government is committed to making sure communities across Scotland receive the services and support they need and this announcement reaffirms that commitment.”
