Carrick winners at Ayr County Show

There were some deserving winners from Carrick at this year’s Ayr Show, which despite some blustery weather, brought huge crowds.

The Reserve Interbreed champion and champion Bluefaced Leicester, was owned by M&C Drummond, Cassington Farm, Maybole. This sheep was also part of the winning group of three.

Hyslop and Richardson, of Balluskie Farm, Barrhill, are once again collecting rosettes this year .

Miss Money Penny won best cross bred heifer and reserve champion commercial cattle, as well as taking first prize in the best pair of cattle class with farm mate Daisy Duke, who also came second in the cross bred heifer class.

Show secretary Lorraine Murdoch said: “We were unlucky with the weather at the weekend but this did not stop the school children from enjoying themselves on Friday.” The schools held a build a better pizza’ competition. First prize and winners of a trip to Dumfries House and the South Ayrshire winners of a Pizza Party at Frankie & Benny’s, Ayr, went to Cairn Primary in Maybole.

“On Saturday, the weather wasn’t much better,” said Lorraine, “but it did dry up with lots of entertainment going on and the new Truck Ayr, where 50 lorries were exhibited, was a new highlight and spectacle for the show.

“This year the horse section held a Rotherwood supreme on the Friday of the show and a Rotherwood Supreme on the Saturday.

“Friday Rotherwood Supreme [£300 prizemoney] was won by Riding Horse Fenwick Rubix owned by Lesley Storrie, Laigh Glengarth, Kilbirnie and ridden by Emma Jane Smith.

“Saturday Rotherwood Supreme [£300] was won by BSPS Show Hunter Ponies Burfordly Sealord owned by Joyce McCluskey, Lea Farm, Roslin, Midlothian, and ridden by Melissa McCluskey.”

The Rotherwood Supreme Champion of Champions (£1000) was won by a British Limousin female, Grahams Glorious, owned by Kevin Watret, Maulscastle Farm, Cummertrees, Annan.

The Rotherwood Reserve Champion of Champions was won by Alexander Woodburn & Son, Killoch Farm, Galston with a red and white seven- year-old cow, Killoch Punch. She gives 55 litres of milk a day, with her milk going specially towards The Ayrshire Glen Woody’s Ice Cream.

Lorraine and chairman Billy Robb would like to thank everyone, from sponsors and advertisers, stock exhibitors, trade stands and the committee, who all worked very hard to set up the event at Ayr Racecourse.

Special thanks to clerk of the course Emma Marley and her team.
