Child protection vigilance needed

A RECENT report has found that there were nearly 150 child protection referrals in the last year, an increase of 15 per cent on the previous year.

South Ayrshire Council’s Children and Community Annual Report 2010/11, which was approved recently, details that in 2010/11 there were 148 child protection referrals − an increase of 15% from 2009/10 figures.

Of these referrals, 67% proceeded to initial case conference (compared with 58% in 2009/10) and 66% of the children were placed on the Child Protection Register (compared with 83% in 2009/10). During 2010/11, 55 children were removed from the Child Protection Register (compared with 59 in 2009/10).
