Permission has been granted for three storage containers to sit on the land at the main road in Kirkoswald adjacent to a planned housing development in the village.
An objection was raised to the plans by Kirkoswald, Maidens and Turnberry Community Council on the grounds that they would be an eyesore to a village keen on promoting tourism.
The community council also said that the containers should only be sited if and when work began on building the houses, plans for which were agreed in 2007 and renewed last year.
South Ayrshire’s regulatory panel passed the application on the condition that the storage containers only be present at the site for a period of one year rather than five years as was applied for.
Maybole and North Carrick councillor Ann Galbraith said: “I am pleased that it’s only going to be a year rather than five years.
“Right now there is no sign of work at the site and here’s hoping that pressure can soon be put on this man to get the work started.”
After the one year period, the containers will be removed from the site and the land restored to its former condition.
