Could you be part of Girvan’s town team

Discussions on the way forward to deliver on the 25-year vision and indicative masterplan for Girvan are on the agenda at the meeting of the new Girvan Town Team at the end of the month.

The next meeting of the Girvan Town Team takes place in the Carrick Buildings, Henrietta Street at 7pm on Thursday 28 June 2012 – and everyone is invited to attend and play their part in shaping the future of the town.

The ‘Town Team’ was just one of the outcomes from the Girvan Charrette in March, which was led by John Thomson & Partners (JTP) on behalf of the Scottish Government and South Ayrshire Council.

Currently made up of representatives from Girvan Community Council, South Ayrshire Council, South Carrick Community Leisure and members of the local community, the Town Team will take the lead on driving forward the work to deliver on the 25-year vision and indicative masterplan for the future of Girvan, which was the key output from the charrette.

Councillor Bill Grant, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure, said: “The Town Team is one of the most important outcomes from the charrette process and it’s vital everyone interested in getting involved in shaping the future of the town has the opportunity to come along and take part. This is a ‘town’ team where local people have a pivotal role and an important part to play, so it’s essential they know how to participate and make that voice heard.

“I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to come along on 28 June and join the Girvan Town Team.”

Andrew Sinclair, Chair of South Carrick Community Leisure, added: “We’ve seen a very positive pace of progress since the charrette in March and there is a tangible commitment from all the partners to really make a difference for Girvan and South Carrick. Making that difference is exactly what we’ll be talking about at the next Town Team meeting and it would be great to see even more people from our local communities come along and take part and help take ownership of the process.”

The next meeting of the Girvan Town Team takes place in the Carrick Buildings at 7pm on Thursday 28 June and everyone is invited to attend.
