Jobs for cleaners, janitors, school crossing patrollers and catering staff across South Ayrshire will be on offer at a series of recruitment open days next week organised by South Ayrshire Council.
The open days in Girvan and Maybole will provide the opportunity for potential employees to find out about the various permanent and casual jobs available in the Council’s facilities management service, which delivers services in schools and Council buildings across South Ayrshire.
The open days will run between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Wednesday 19 November at Maybole Town Hall and on Thursday 20 November at Girvan Community Centre;
Filling the posts – which include the first permanent vacancies to be available within the council’s facilities management service for some time – will ensure the council can continue to keep schools and buildings safe and tidy, and provide pupils with healthy and nutritious school meals.
It will also ensure the council can meet the expected increase in the uptake of school meals as a result of the Scottish Government’s free school meals initiative for pupils in primary one to three, which will be introduced from January 2015.
The recruitment exercise is the latest stage of the process to deliver agreed efficiency savings within the facilities management service.
Lesley Bloomer, South Ayrshire Council’s Executive Director – Economy, Neighbourhood and Environment, said: “We’ve been working hard to both deliver the agreed efficiency savings and reduce the impact of the required changes on our staff. This has included offering voluntary severance or voluntary early retirement to a small proportion of staff, and working with every single affected employee to minimise – or avoid – any impact on their earnings. Thanks to our efforts, many employees will now not experience a reduction in pay, which is exactly the outcome we wanted to achieve.
“Our focus now is to fill any remaining vacancies to ensure we have the right numbers of permanent and bank staff available to work the required hours and deliver a quality service to our schools and other Council properties. Our open days – combined with our usual recruitment process via the ‘myjobscotland’ portal – will maximise our chances of doing that at the earliest opportunity.
“I hope as many people as possible take the time to come along to our open days find out about the job opportunities we have on offer.”
Anyone unable to attend the open days can find out more – and apply for posts – at www.myjobscotland.gov.uk/south-ayrshire from Friday 14 November 2014. Alternatively, they can contact the council on 01292 612136.
