Currency is key to church renovation

GIRVAN’S North Parish Church wants your throw away pennies.

The church has begun collecting foreign coins - old and new - and old British currency in a bid to boost their restoration fund - which hit the £150,000 mark last weekend.

Their latest fundarising effort will join initiatives including a silent auction, jewellery sale, ceilidh, and ‘alternative wedding’ held by the Montgomerie Street place of worship over the past three years, all in aid of the church restoration fund, for which a pot of £220,000 is ultimately required.

“Whether you go on an exotic holiday or just go over to Arran for a few days and give us a pound or two when you come back, it all adds up!” said the North Parish’s Betty Moffat.

Collection tins are currently available in various Girvan locations, including the dental surgery and Birtwistle Opticians.
