Girvan and South Carrick councillor John McDowall has defended the budget proposals which were passed on Thursday.
Councillor McDowall, who is also the Depute leader of the council believes the approved plans are exactly what’s needed in these tough times.
He said: “Our proposals are bold and decisive, but still allow us to focus on meeting our priorities and delivering the core services that matter to our communities.
“They are prudent, practical and proportionate – and that’s exactly what’s needed in these tough times.”
He says that the budget makes a real difference to the young people in South Ayrshire and that the council are continuing to make a difference in communities despite the tough economic times.
Councillor McDowall said: “For our young people in particular, we are investing millions in their futures and every penny invested will be a penny well spent – helping to change lives and make lives and ensuring that our young people are fully equipped to make their mark on the world.
“We’re also making a real difference for our communities, with a focus on regeneration and improvement – in our towns centres, in our community facilities and on our streets.”
The budget was passed by 20 votes to 9 after a sometimes heated debate.
