Firefighters had to use specialist equipment to cut a driver free from his car near the A77 at Ballantrae on Sunday morning.

The man’s vehicle had flipped over several times and landed in a field near to the village as the Scottish Fire and Rescue service rushed to the scene.

They found the man trapped inside and firefighters used hydraulic equipment to cut the roof off the car and got the man to safety.

Watch manager Ronnie O’Hare said: “A casualty was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters removed its roof to allow his safe release.

“While our crews effected the rescue our ambulance colleagues assessed the extent of his injuries and took charge of his care and police officers controlled traffic to ensure the safety of everyone at the scene. “After we removed the casualty from the vehicle he received further treatment from paramedics and was taken to Ayr Hospital by ambulance.”
