This year is certainly gearing up to be something extra special in terms of the bands and musicians that want to play at the Gig on the Green.
Whilst Mary Jean Lewis and THEM Beatles are the two scheduled headline bands all the support bands are also awesome and certainly worth catching.
Itchycoo Park are an excellent 60s band who have just returned from an American tour.
They are also scheduled to play at this year’s Jam at the Dam on 4th August and Ayr Gaeity on 10th August. so Gig on the Green is an ideal chance to hear them first and for free as well.
Bill Grant of organisers Z1 youth trust said: “All going well and dependent on public response we are now looking to use the success of the gigs and the new music on the promenade every sunday to help us return the Bandstand to its former glory and use for summer 2014.
“We could however do with help particularly in the following: The fact that we have, since 2008, managed to provide this festival of great music and children’s entertainment free of charge is testimony to the support given to us by local funders, businesses and the general public in way of sponsorship and our community wide raffle.
“We urgently require the community’s help to sell our Gig on the Green raffle tickets, especially in local factories, shops and licensed premises.
The raffle is in aid of GIG on the GREEN and our local voluntary youth work ie: Z1 Youth BAR and our programme of trips and activities..
Any shopkeeper, parent, or member of the public who can help sell raffle tickets to work mates, neighbours, family and friends should please contact Girvan Youth Trust on 01465 714729, e-mail - email@example.com/ facebook: girvanyouthtrust.
“The Trust would like to hear from local parents and / or adults who would be willing to volunteer a couple of hours on the day.
“Anyone who can help should contact Heather McCafferty on 01465 714729 or e-mail - Heather @Z1girvan.org.uk.
“This is also a last call for any local group, organisation and / or local craft trader that would like a stall at the event, please get in touch if you do.”
“Everyone involved in organising this year’s Gig on the Green have, to date, put a lot of effort into ensuring that it continues to be a special day for the music lovers, local families and visitors to Girvan.
“We do however, still need help in continuing to make Girvan a special place for local and visitors alike now and in the future.”
