Easter Activities prove to be a real treat!

Holiday activities proved to be a real treat this Easter right across South Ayrshire. Activity centre’s and pools across the region offered a range of activities including fun sessions, gymnastics, football, short tennis, basketball and kids keep fit.

Councillor Bill Grant, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said, ‘It is great that so many young people of all ages joined in with the activities on offer this Easter. It is particularly nice to see young people taking part in outdoor activities giving them a chance to explore and enjoy the picturesque surroundings we are so fortunate to have here in South Ayrshire.’

For the more adventurous 11 to 16 year olds there was an opportunity to try out coastal rowing at Maidens and Troon beaches. These sessions were well attended and proved to be very popular. Sailing was also on offer at Prestwick and Ayr beaches.

Many young people experienced a range of outdoor activities including caving, bouldering, climbing and team building at Dolphin House. Those taking part across South Ayrshire attended by taking advantage of the free pick up points in Girvan, Ayr, Prestwick and Troon. Feedback from parents on the outdoor activities was very positive with comments like “My son really enjoyed his day at Dolphin House and immediately asked if he could return during the summer holidays” and one young lady who took part in the activities said ‘It was absolutely amazing. Would love to be there for several days in summer for different activities.’

One of the most popular activities this Easter proved to be the Sports Camps at the Citadel Leisure Centre, Marr College and Prestwick and Girvan Academies. The camps could be attended on a half or full day basis and offered a wide range of sports including basketball, volleyball, martial arts, table tennis, handball, dance, netball, trampolining and much more. These camps were well attended with nearly 700 young people taking part over the two week holiday period. A range of exciting activities are being planned to run again during the summer holidays.
