Sixteen teachers from South Ayrshire Council schools have successfully completed a Leadership Development Programme for aspiring Head teachers and Depute teachers. This success was celebrated with a graduation ceremony at the Horizon Hotel in Ayr.
Teachers applied to take part in the programme, after competitive interviews 16 people were selected from primary and secondary schools.
The programme was established in October 2010. It was designed to be a sustainable and affordable programme to support aspiring leaders of South Ayrshire Council schools by utilising the strengths of individual employees and enabling them to attain their maximum potential.
Councillor Hywel Davies, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning said: “By providing continuing professional development opportunities, which enable employees to contribute to effective leadership within their school and beyond, this helps to increase the leadership capacity within the Council. This in turn leads to improved outcomes for young people in South Ayrshire schools.”
One of the outcomes of the programme was to support teachers into promoted posts within three years of completion.
From this year’s cohort, 12 of the participants have already been successful in achieving either an ‘acting’ post or a substantive promoted post.
