Fatal crash victim named

Police have named a man who was killed in a road crash on the A714 near Clachaneasy on Friday at around 5pm.

He was 59-year-old farmer James McWhirter from Douglas in Lanarkshire.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 64-year-old man from Newton Stewart, received a hand injury in the crash.

The road was closed for some time for investigations to take place after the collision between Mr McWhirter’s Honda car and the DAF truck.

The procurator fiscal has been informed of the death and police inquiries continue into the cause of the accident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to make contact with officers at Dumfries Roads Policing Unit on the non-emergency number 101.
