THE inaugural January rain did not put Carrick fishermen off their game last week, when they took part in an annual New Year’s Day competition.
A total of 16 members of Penwhapple Fishing Club braved the heavy showers - including one of hail - preceding the event, but at commencing time it was relatively mild and dry with the wind in a north-westerly direction; although some twenty minutes later a much colder wind got up.
Weigh-in produced six rainbow trout – quite something for this time of year, according to Club President Robert Wright.
The New Year Champion of 2013 was Drew McMillan (pictured left of centre), with a fish weighing 3lbs 14oz. Second with a catch weighing exactly 2lbs was Alastair Scobie. Third equal was Richard McGill and Robert Wright with one fish each of 1lb 4oz. Fifth was Adrian McCleary whose fish was 1lb 12oz.
The club would like to thank Mrs Stark and family once again for their generous support of this event.
